Birmingham Botanical Garden

There is a spot in Birmingham that is untouched by hate, untouched by war, and untouched by the hustle and bustle of day to day urban life, and that spot is known as the Birmingham Botanical Garden. This prime peace-filled spot in the city is a total of 67.5 acres, a large cultural type of garden just adjacent to Lane Park. Here, at the southern foot of Red Mountain, you will find nothing but serenity, eco-education, and really spectacular natural scenery. Most people can spend on an average of two hours exploring here, two hours giving them ample time to explore all the cultural gardens, outdoor sculptures, and other various green attractions.

Aside from the main garden areas here (Cultural, Collections, Nature, Other Interest), there are also several other minor installments to see, from the art gallery on site to the cafe and gift shop. There are daily tours, an on-site research library, several different weekend programs and classes, and even occasional birding and photography events. A guided group tour (10-50 people) must be reserved 3 weeks in advance but will give your group anywhere from 45-75 minutes of education and entertainment like no other. You can also choose to take the Japanese Garden, Southern Living, Rose Garden, Bog Garden, or Seasonal Highlights tours while here.

Be sure to bring your camera, wear comfortable walking shoes, and also save enough time to stop by the onsite gift shop for your own educational resources or horticultural tools. There is also an onsite seasonally changing cafe called the Garden Cafe you’re going to want to try, especially if you love local ingredients!
