Cloud Gate is a well-known sculpture located in Chicago, Illinois. It sits inside Millennium Park. It was created by British artist Anish Kapoor. The sculpture weighs 110-tons. Students of all ages enjoy taking photos of the attraction and getting a breathtaking view of the skyline. Cloud Gate is made out of individual steel plates. Its smooth surface is a result of several hours of meticulous polishing. There is a 12-foot arch that “provides a gate” which leads to the concave sculpture.
Cloud Gate is Anish Kapoor’s first outdoor work to be installed in the United States. The students will be able to see their image from a variety of perspectives. This work was inspired by liquid mercury and is beautiful from all angles. Anish Kapoor was born in 1954. He has lived in London since the 1970s where he began his art career. He is known to be one of the most recognized sculptors in the world. Come with your student group and enjoy this eye-popping sculpture!
