The New Shanghai Circus provides backstage tours, interaction with the Acrobats, learning experiences about modern day China, and dance/acrobatic demonstrations. "Wo men zai mi su li zhou bu lan sen de xin ju yuan kai zhang le!" Translation: "Our new theater in Branson, Missouri is now open!" says Lizhi Zhao, CEO and owner of the New Shanghai Circus. Mr. Zhao continues, "Our new theater is perfect for showcasing our award-winning specialty acts and internationally acclaimed acrobats to student tours." In its' 9th season in Branson, the New Shanghai Circus features more than 40 Acrobats of China. This year's entourage from China includes acrobats from the New Shanghai Circus, the Anhui Acrobatic Troupe, and the Shanghai Circus School - a school paid by Mr. Zhao to train new performers that starts teaching kids acrobatics at ages of 8-10. There's also a full-time cook, several coaches/teachers, technicians, propmaster, carpenter, costume designer and other staff members. They've joined their talents to create a fast-paced production that brings the Orient to Branson! The young acrobats from the Shanghai Circus School bring their international award-winning "Dream - Handstand Art" and the act known as "Russian Bar" (also know as Foot Juggling on Teeterboard) to Branson. Acrobats from the Anhui Acrobatic Troupe perform the stunning Group Chair Stack as well as other acts such as the fascinating Diablo and Bicycle Tricks that require precise teamwork and group coordination. New Shanghai Circus performers deliver a revolving line-up of favorite acts such as Fish Net Contortion, Magic Clock, Barrel Contortion, Jar Juggling, and Roller Skating. Other exciting acts in the show include the gold medal winning Aerial Ballet, Adagio, Plates Spinning, and more with newly designed costumes and beautiful new backdrops designed specifically for the New Shanghai Theatre. The new theatre features elements of Chinese architecture including modern artwork, cascading waterfalls, Chinese gardens, and a sculpture of Chinese Bronze Ware that is approximately 3,500 years old. Over 40 Acrobats of China bring the Orient to Branson with fabulous backdrops, state-of-the-art lighting, and a fast-paced, exciting production! The New Shanghai Circus was founded in 1991 as a touring company from its parent troupe, the Shanghai Magic Troupe in Shanghai, China. It's been an upward spiral ever since with more than 80 tours around the world including a 1998 stint on Broadway in New York that played before 28 sold out performances - and now a permanent second home in Branson, Missouri! Mr. Zhao says, "Qing da jia lai kan wo men!" Translation: "Ya'll come see us!" |
