This is the location of Panama's only volcano, the Volcán Barú and is now a national park. Fortunately, the volcano is no longer active. Arrive at the park early so you can make a day of the tour in this Chiriqui province. The Barú Volcano is the highest point in the entire county, and climbing the volcano will allow visitors to see the awesome formations of lava from past eruptions. You will also see the Atlantic and Pacific ocean. Groups who visit can hike on paths like the Nevera or the El Quetza and study giant trees that are only found in humid tropical climates such as those found in Panama. Different species of flowers, ferns, mosses and orchids can be found in Quetzal or Toucan. For those who enjoy birding, be sure to spend time in Paseo del Respingo where tropical birds are living in the wild. As you walk and hike, be sure to stay on the paths so the forest remains natural and uninterrupted. Always hike prepared, so bring bug spray and bottled water for your day of hiking.
