WHERE: 174 Derby St., Salem, MA WHEN: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily WHAT: Twelve historic sites
With progress in transportation, it’s difficult to imagine the importance of New England’s waterfront in the 1700s. The Salem Maritime National Historic Site wants to make it easier. This site is dedicated to sea trade before and after the American Revolution. It includes 12 historic structures to help you experience life in maritime New England. You’ll visit Salem’s longest wharf once lined with warehouses of goods from around the world. There are ships here as well as colonial homes to view and explore. This historic site is a refreshing glimpse of an important era long past but not forgotten.
