Powers Museum

Carthage, MO

The Powers Museum is a must see on any visit to Carthage, Missouri as it tells the stories of Carthage's past involvement in the Civil War. This museum is also dedicated to the study of Carthage history and its local flavor. A bequest upon her death, Marian Powers Winchester provided for the opening of the museum in 1988. She specifically wanted the museum to be "for the establishment and operation of a museum for the citizens of Carthage and the surrounding area." There are many original and reproduced paper products. Reproductions of period wrapping paper, post cards and paper dolls can be purchased at the museum gift shop along with children’s books and holiday items. Exhibits include the Maple Leaf Festival Quilt Show, Souvenir of Carthage - Postcards for Carthage’s Past, Carthage in the 1860s-1870s (Civil War era), Carthage Maps, 1891 & 1895 and more. There is much homegrown fun found in the Powers Museum.
