Route 66 Drive-in Theater

Carthage, MO

In Carthage, Missouri, you will find one of the last of the original drive-in theatres. It is named after the famous Route 66 Highway. Route 66 is miles of open highway where many a traveler has made his way from Illinois to California. The eight states included in the Mother Road or “Main Street America” are Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. Today many tour companies and tour buses travel up and down Route 66 to relive the nostalgia of days gone by. Cities in each of the states listed are home to motels, gas stations, local eateries and drive in theaters that capture the American culture of the 1960s. The theme song to this culture highway is the Route 66 song or “Get your Kicks on Route 66.” There is even a ‘60s television series called Route 66 about two young men who traveled across America in a Corvette convertible and were heroes of a sort of their time. A visit to the Route 66 Drive in Theater in Carthage Missouri brings us back to a simpler time. Movies are shown every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
