The Smithsonian Museums on the National Mall is the worlds largest museum complex. While there are eight Museums on the national mall, here are highlights from a few of them. The Smithsonian Castle is an impressive start to a museum tour. Built in 1855, the castle first served as the home of the secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, Joseph Henry and now houses the Smithsonian Administrative offices and the Smithsonian Information Center. The Air and Space Museum boasts hundreds of historic artifacts. Including Apollo 11, and the Wright 1903 Flyer.
The American Art Museum features art from only the United States but shows us that this country is truly a melting pot of cultures, with folk art, the African American Art and the Latino art all on display. Also in this museum complex is the Museum of Natural History. This museum will spark the curiosity of your student group with its colorful and impressive exhibits on ocean life, forensic files from the 17th century and much more. With over 126 million natural science specimens, your group will enjoy many hours exploring the museum.
