Arlington National Cemetery

You'll recognize Arlington National Cemetery by the remarkably uniform white gravestones that mark the graves of each of the soldiers buried there. This is one of the most popular attractions for Washington D.C. educational tours because of its rich history and beautiful setting. It is a perfect place for remembering, for reflection, and to honor US soldiers past and present.

Along with the gravesites, marked on a map for easy guidance to the more prominent ones, you can also visit Arlington House, a former home of Robert E. Lee, as well as a museum dedicated to him. Two former US presidents are buried at Arlington, John F. Kennedy and William Howard Taft. There is a beautiful Memorial Amphitheater where concerts are played throughout the year. Above this, you'll find the famous Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where you can witness the changing of the guard and ceremonial guarding of the tomb. Buried in it are the remains of unidentified soldiers from almost all US wars and conflicts. Their medals of honor and the flags that covered their caskets are located in the amphitheater below.
