Capitol Hill Tours
The United States Capitol is perhaps the most magnificent government building, one of the most architecturally impressive in the world and perfect for Washington D.C. educational tours.
For years after it was built, it held two of the three branches of our amazing government. The third of these, the executive branch, visits it at least annually when the President gives his yearly State of the Union Address. This address is given in the chamber for the House of Representatives, only one of the amazing chambers in this building and which you will at least glimpse on a Capitol Hill Tour.
The beautiful architecture on Capitol Hill will capture you from the moment you climb the grand outdoor steps and view the sculptures without. Inside you are greeted with yet more grandeur with the marble halls, pillars, and staircases leading to the current congressional chambers as well as previous ones, refurbished and rich with history. The ground floor contains the Old Supreme Court Chamber, which resided on Capitol Hill until it was given its own home in 1935. The previous House of Representatives is now the National Statuary Hall with statues of famous Americans commissioned and displayed here from each state in the Union – so many, in fact, that many are placed elsewhere throughout the Capitol building. The Old Senate Chamber has also been refurbished as a rich, historical replica of its original state.
From the third floor, guests obtain access to the galleries overlooking the current House and Senate chambers each located in their own wing on the second floor. Capitol Hill is perhaps best recognized by its large, impressive dome. Beneath it on the second floor, guests are astounded by the famous rotunda with presidential busts and other sculptures surrounded by beautiful architecture and design. Due to its splendor and rich history, Capitol Hill is one of the most popular attractions for Washington D.C. educational tours.
