Susquenanna Plantation
Come see a plantation that appears much like it did in the 1800’s. The Susquenanna plantation was the home of approximately 15 families working on 700 acres in Maryland. Over 74 African-American slaves took care of the large modern-looking house and the fields. The owner of the plantation Henry Carroll grew wheat and Tobacco. In the late 1800’s Tobacco prices were decreasing so Carroll chose to plant 200 acres of wheat which took care of the shortfall. The display includes the original dairy house where slaves made butter and in 1860 approximately 400 pounds were created.
