Federal Reserve Bank
WHERE: Corner of South LaSalle and West Jackson
WHEN: The Money Museum is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, except on Bank Holidays
WHAT: Historic branch of the Federal Reserve
There are only twelve regional branches of the Federal Reserve in the nation, and this is one of them. The building has a rich architectural history, which is fitting in this city known for architectural design and something you’ll notice from the moment you stand before the powerful columns in front of the building on LaSalle. Inside the lobby, a vista towers another three stories above its visitors. The Federal Reserve is a fascinating part of our economic structure, and your tour helps you understand this as well as the specific role of the branch in Chicago. This tour is especially enhanced by the exciting attraction within it, featured below.
Money Museum
The Money Museum helps you experience the Federal Reserve through interesting exhibits. You’ll get an introduction and see the history of the Fed. You can witness its amazing shredder, which destroys millions of worn dollars every single day. You’ll see a suitcase filled with one million dollars worth of hundred-dollar bills and a clear cube stacked full of ONE-dollar bills, also equaling one million dollars. The museum is full of fun facts, fascinating sights, and great photo ops, making it a perfect addition to Chicago educational tours.
