Huntsville Educational Tours
From the charm of the antebellum South to the cutting edge of 21st Century technology, It’s Right Here in Huntsville! Historically based attractions transport visitors back in time to when cotton was king while others offer a glimpse into the future.
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center, home of Space Camp, offers student tours a look at the history as well as the future of space travel. The recently opened Davidson Center for Space Exploration houses one of only three remaining actual Saturn V moon rockets suspended 12 feet above the floor! The Davidson Center also houses a new 3-D theater in addition to the existing IMAX. Marvel at many artifacts only seen in Huntsville, including a full-scale, full-stack shuttle and the only full-scale vertical mock-up of a Saturn V rocket.
Students can participate in “A Lesson in Art” at the Huntsville Museum of Art. Alabama Constitution Village marks the site where Alabama became the 22nd state. Villagers dressed in period clothing make history come alive as they re-enact urban life in the 1800s and invite students to try their hand at candle-dipping, blacksmithing and more. At the Historic Huntsville Depot, students can spend the night in one of the oldest railroad structures in the nation.
Bridge Street Town Centre, situated on a 10-acre lake with gondola rides and pedal boats, features shopping, dining and entertainment. Monaco Pictures, the one-of-a-kind 14-screen theater, can be reserved for groups.
From caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly, your students will thrill at investigating the life cycle of the butterfly in the nation’s largest, seasonal butterfly house at the Huntsville Botanical Garden. The butterflies, the children’s garden and annual events have made the garden one of the top tourist destinations in the state.
More than 100 interactive exhibits and an Immersive Theater await the young and young at heart at Sci-Quest. Students are encouraged to participate in labs such as “Dissection” and “DNA Extraction.” At EarlyWorks Children’s Museum, students can travel back in time to experience the rich history of the Old South. Burritt on the Mountain will take visitors on a time-traveling trip through rural lifestyles from the 1800s. The Burritt Mansion itself is unique in its architecture---a “green” home built in 1936! Other activities at Burritt invite visitors to explore the geology of the mountain setting. The Veterans Memorial Museum offers visitors the opportunity to appreciate the sacrifices of the American soldier. Veteran volunteers present fascinating first-hand accounts of some of America’s most significant historic moments. |
