The Bridges of Madison County 3 Day Tour

The Bridges of Madison County was written by Robert James Waller and spent 150 weeks on the bestseller list. The book has been written in 25 different languages with over 12 million copies sold. The movie was filmed on location in Madison County, Iowa. We discovered this tour to Winterset, Iowa, in1994 and visited many of the attractions.

The trip was so much fun and just lovely in the fall with the trees filled with autumn colors. Spring or fall will be the best time to travel as the temperature will be nice. This is important since the group will be in and out of the vehicles to walk over the bridges and read the engravings etched on them. The town of Winterset is quaint and undisturbed by its fame. You can visit the Northside Café to have coffee and sit on the same bar stool Clint Eastwood sat on during the filming of the movie. In 1994 tours were available at Francesca's House and the grounds surrounding it. This is unfortunately no longer true due to arson some years ago. However, the rest of the attractions and bridges will certainly make up for it. Discover the itinerary for this amazing tour below. And click on the links to learn more about the covered bridges and other charming attractions of Winterset.
