Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun
Worlds of Fun is an awesome amusement park located in the bluffs above the Missouri River, and right next door is Oceans of Fun, which when built was the largest water park in the world. Worlds of Fun is themed around the book Around the World in Eighty Days. It is divided into five sections; Scandinavia, Africa, Europe, the Orient and America. The rides, shops, shows, eateries, etc are all named according to the country of origin they are “located” in.
Some of the thrilling rides are the Viking Voyager - a log ride, Fury of the Nile - a river rafting ride, Detonator, which was the first space shot in the USA and the first in the entire world to have twin towers, RipCord - a 190-foot Skycoaster, and some of the older original rides: Finnish Fling, Le TaxiTour and the Flying Dutchman. Roller coasters include the Patriot, Spinning Dragons and the Wacky Worm for the smaller children. For a spine-chilling experience, ride the Timber Wolf, Zulu and the Thunderhawk. Each of these are listed as some of the most thrilling rides in any park.
Oceans of Fun is water fun for all ages. Groups and families will find something for every member. Buccaneer Bay, Captain Kidd’s and the Caribbean Cooler are low impact activity areas for those who just want to be wet and coast or paddle down a lazy “river.” If your group is interested in something more energizing, check out the Aruba Tuba - a tube slide, Diamond Head’s totally thrilling slides, Surf City Wave Pool, Monsoon, and Typhoon - a racing speed slide. These are not for the fainthearted, and the participants should be able to tolerate splashing water in the face. There are lots of restaurants, specialty shops, and entertainment in the park; so be assured whatever your taste there will be something for you on your visit.
