The Plaza
Spanish architecture and beautiful European art both adorn this Midwest treasure. Formally called the Country Club Plaza, this Kansas City attraction was the first suburban shopping district in the country. When everyone else merely passed through the area on their push farther west, J.C. Nichols decided to begin a building process that would still stand today as one of the most popular tourist attractions and shopping districts in the region. Today the fifteen-block district is known for its amazing shops, eclectic dining options, and its artistic flair.
Art and Architecture
Throughout the Plaza, you’ll find fountains, some of the many beautiful and refreshing landmarks for which Kansas City is famous. The area is dotted with European architecture and famous sculptures to add to the allure. A statue of Winston Churchill, for instance, rests not far away from Spain’s Giralda Tower and Seville Light.
Shops
The shopping includes the Armani Exchange, Lucky brand jeans, Ann Taylor, American Eagle, J. Crew, Banana Republic, Burberry, White House Black Market, Anthropologie, and many more apparel shops and designers. You’ll find Bath & Body Works, Pottery Barn, and Restoration Hardware, plus shoes, jewelry, gifts, and more. The Plaza even carries original Kansas City stores like Halls, owned by Hallmark Cards, Inc., and carrying everything from women’s fashion to home décor, and Tivol for exclusive jewelry.
Dining
California Pizza, The Cheesecake Factory, and Cold Stone Creamery all tempt your taste buds at the Plaza. Or how about Chinese, a Tuscan Grille, Japanese Steakhouse , Kona Grill, The Melting Pot, or Panera? There’s still more and definitely a restaurant for every preference at the Plaza.
