Walnut Grove, Minnesota

From our Laura Ingalls Wilder Literature Theme Tour

At the age of 7, Laura and the rest of the Ingalls family moved to Walnut Grove. The memory of Laura and of the TV show based on her writing lives on in this town. Groups can go to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum. The museum displays a 1898 depot, an onion-domed house, the dugout display, a chapel, little red schoolhouse, early settler home, covered wagon display, as well as numerous memorabilia from visits by some of the NBC stars from the series “Little House on the Prairie”. Outside of Walnut Grove are the banks of Plum Creek where Laura actually lived. In 1874 the Ingalls settled on the property as Laura describes in her book “On the Banks of Plum Creek”. Weather permitting visitors can view the unusual depression still in the bank of Plum Creek.
