In the heart of Amherst, Massachusetts, only about an hour and a half from Concord, you’ll find the two homesteads that together create the Emily Dickinson Museum. The Homestead is where Emily Dickinson lived and wrote. The Evergreens next door belonged to her brother and sister-in-law. There are various tours offered of the grounds and homes, including “Emily Dickinson’s World”, “This was a Poet”, and “Grounds of Memory.” Tour guides explain much about Dickenson’s life, separating fact from fiction and elaborating on her life, her world, and the work that it inspired. You’ll gain a greater understanding of Emily Dickinson as well as her influence on American literature.
