Trinity Church

Since its beginning, the Trinity Church has always been a pillar of the community. It has reached out to millions of people throughout its long history. The Trinity Church held its first service in 1698. Shortly after it was built, the Trinity School was established. Today, it is the oldest educational institution in New York. In 1776, when the British attempted to reclaim New York City, Lower Manhattan was set on fire. Both the Trinity church and the school were lost in the blaze. After the British fled from the area, they began to rebuild the church. The second Trinity church, which was finished in 1790, had to be torn down because heavy snows had weakened the structure of the church. The final, and current church was constructed in 1896. On September 11th, 2001, the Trinity Church once again reached out to the surrounding community. After the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the church was used as a relief shelter for victims and workers alike.
