Valley Forge Attractions
Valley Forge National Historical Park:
Visit the site where George Washington’s ragtag troops encamped during the winter of 1777-78. National Park Service-trained tour guides lead entertaining and educational tours, including a 90-minute “old fashioned” trolley tour and an interactive excursion at Washington’s Headquarters that divides groups into loyalists, patriots, and undecideds. Be a soldier in the Continental Army, learn about the army’s accomplishments and see demonstrations of military maneuvers.
Elmwood Park Zoo:
Animals from North and South America call this zoo their home, as does the nation’s largest open air bald eagle exhibit. All are showcased in naturalistic settings with a focus on educating young children. Daily live animal shows in season, educational programs, summer camp, birthday parties, as well as a playground, café, and nature shop year-round.
Pottsgrove Manor:
Discover how Pottstown founder and colonial ironmaster John Potts lived and worked in the 18th century. Learn about his family, servants and slaves on an educational tour at this Georgian mansion.
John James Audubon:
The first American home of John James Audubon celebrates his artistic and scientific legacy. A small museum houses all of the artist-naturalist’s major works on paper and several original oil paintings. The property is still much as Audubon found it, 175 acres that are a sanctuary for 175 species of birds and wildlife. It’s a great way to be outside and see many different species of birds.
Valley Forge After Hours:
It is June of 1778 and General Washington is about to depart with his troops to retake the city of Philadelphia from the British. But before he leaves, you will have the opportunity to relive history at Valley Forge. Dine with Martha Washington, then move on to Washington’s Headquarters and interact with General Washington and General Lafayette. Afterwards, relax around a campfire and listen to soldiers’ tales.
