Historic Waco Foundation and Historic House Museums
Step back in time with educational tours through Historic Waco Foundation’s four historic house museums. Learn about the history of Waco and central Texas and the families that once lived in these homes.
-
Fort House, an 1868 Greek Revival style house, was built by William Aldridge Fort when he moved his family to Waco. Today the Fort House is used primarily to showcase Victorian furniture and artifacts from Waco’s prominent early settlers.
-
East Terrace, an 1872 Italianate Villa, is one of the most exquisite homes in Waco. East Terrace, with its arched windows and thin columns, rests under the shade of large elm trees and offers an open view of the Brazos River. Some of the furnishings of the original owner, John Wesley Mann are showcased in the house.
-
Earle-Napier-Kinnard House is an 1869 Greek Revival style home. In addition to the beautiful home, children can enjoy the quaint Victorian Teeling playhouse, which was added in 1881. Though beautiful throughout the year, this house takes on special ambiance at Christmastime, when each room is decorated for the season.
-
McCulloch House, an 1872 Greek Revival style house, was the epicenter of the Waco social scene, the site of frequent dances and parties. Groups on student tours can see how the McCulloch family lived, including the original family bible, children’s room mural, calligraphy writings and the bed where the McCulloch babies were born. In addition, this house displays the Dresden collection of Governor Pat Neff’s daughter, Hallie Maude Wilcox.
