The Statue of Liberty National Monument comprises both the Statue of Liberty, which rests on 12-acre Liberty Island, and Ellis Island, once the immigration processing center for more than 25 million people. Almost half of all Americans today could trace their ancestry to Ellis Island. It’s now an inspirational centerpiece for the Statue of Liberty National Monument, its exhibits a moving story of the immigrants who landed here in search of spiritual and financial freedom.

You’ll reach the islands by ferry and go through a significant screening process. Note: If all statueyou want is a glimpse, consider a cruise instead like those offered by the Circle Line. You’ll be driven by the Statue of Liberty National Monument with commentary from your guide. Most even pause for photo ops. Still, if you want to experience the landmarks up close, you’ll need to endure the screening. Trips to the Statue of Liberty crown require prior reservations. For the rest, you’ll need a Monument ticket. These allow you access to the Ellis Island Museum and the Statue of Liberty museum as well as a climb (or elevator ride) to the top of the platform there. Though not the crown, this provides a brilliant view as well.

The entire experience can be extremely moving for groups. It’s perfect for family reunions, history buffs, and anyone interested in our country’s early years. The Statue of Liberty National Monument is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy and a great choice for New York City tours.
