A DC Experience --National Aeronautics and Space Museum

Washington DC is among the most interesting cities in the United States--if not the world. Not only is it the place where major national decisions are made, but also a place where any traveling tour group can find a quality educational experience as well as a little bit of fun. Although there are many various attractions on the National Mall that I would personally recommend, the National Aeronautics and Space Museum is perhaps one of the most interesting locales in addition to being an exceptional experience for Washington DC educational tours.

The National Aeronautics and Space Museum is located at the National Mall and can be found by looking for a giant, metal needle coming out of the group in front of the main building. When you walk in, you will immediately see the first conceptions of space flight--such as the Spirit of St. Louis, one of the first flying machines in human history. The Museum doesn't charge an admittance fee; however, they do ask for donations and boxes for deposits are located at the front of the building. Drop in a couple dollars, if you can afford it, to continue to fund this innovative museum!

There are several group travel tours that can be found at this museum that are especially well-suited for student groups. Three tours are exceptional: the History of Flight, Exploring the Universe with telescopes, and the Exploring Space tour. Another more specialized tour is called African Americans in Air and Space History. The tours that this museum offers are great for any history, astronomy, or minority studies high school class. The tours are only given on certain dates. For instance, the Exploring Space tours are only offered Monday through Friday, so be sure to book your group tours in advance!

One of the most interesting exhibits in the National Aeronautics and Space Museum would have to be the Space Race exhibit. This exhibit, perfect for educational tours, showcases the famous space race between the United States and former Soviet Republic in the greater context of American history and the Cold War. You will be able to see life-sized replicas of Soviet and US spaceships as well as a workshop from the United State's space station, Skylab.
