St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, located at the corner of Church Street, has nearly 200 years of history in Lower Manhattan, surviving various riots, pestilence, and attacks amid the surrounding streets. The Roman Catholic parish of Our Lady of Rosary, has a long history of resilience and renewal, sitting at the "center of early American Catholicism."
St. Peter’s Church actually predates the first Bishopric in the United States, built just two years after the end of the American Revolution! The artwork and architecture here are outstanding. The building itself was designed as a Greek Revival masterpiece and remains filled with historic pews, intricate stained glass windows, and gold ornate details around every corner. You and your group will enjoy the smooth masonry walls, grand portico, and six iconic columns that are recognizable even at a distance. Gaze upon the main altar and drink in the beauty of the famous Crucifixion painting by Vallejo.
Mass is celebrated each weekday morning at 7:10, 7:45, 12:05 pm, and 1:05 pm, as well as at 8 am and 4 pm Saturdays and 8, 9:30, and noon on Sundays. You may also observe, during your trip, the Catholic memorial at Ground Zero, associated with St. Peter’s Church!
