Miami is a highly popular Spring Break spot for students across the nation, the city offering so much sand, surf, and sun. Not to mention all the eager college and high school students looking to let loose and party!
However, if you are looking for something a little different than your typical booze-fueled Spring Break in Miami then you should consider the educational and entertaining Spring Break Camp at the Miami Seaquarium.
The Miami Seaquarium itself is a 38-acre tropical paradise, a Miami shining gem with some of the most amazing skyline views in the city. A popular educational stop in the Keys Biscayne area, the Seaquarium provides students ages 5-18 a truly informational and entertaining experience.
Committed to wildlife conservation and rescue, rehab, and release of distressed marine mammals, this spot is truly one of the best marine life facilities in the nation.
Your group will be able to learn about and observe up close such marine mammals and invertebrates such as sea lions, sea turtles, manatees, dolphins, and sea urchins. The Seaquarium has actually saved a total of 80 manatees and 250 sea turtles since 2002 alone, though it began in 1955, adding much more to the final count.
Amazingly this 2 million dollar aquarium began as a 14-year olds dream, Coppock beginning with the manatee Little Mamie. Since that first animal rescue this establishment has gone even further to advance rehab and rescue in this area, also seeing the first manatee born under the care of man, the first sea lion cataract surgery, and the first neurological surgery on a manatee. This spot really leads the way in marine science and tech innovation, one of the absolute best in the nation.
There are daily shows, animal feedings, dolphin encounters, an aerial ropes course, and of course, student camps at this ‘world-class marine life entertainment park’. Not only does it offer all these activities (plus much more) but it also has onsite eateries to allow you to spend the full 4-5 hours here it takes to see it all. You can enjoy such favorites as Pink's Hollywood Hot Dogs or Organic Selects, satisfying even the pickiest of eaters or food allergins.
Warmly welcoming students, student classes, scout groups, and homeschoolers, the Miami Seaquarium Spring Break Camp program offers one of the most educational experiences your students can have in Miami, marine life wise. The camp is a weeklong event that will allow the students to participate in mammal shows, animal interactions, games, crafts, and more. This year the camp runs from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm from April 10th to April 14th.
The theme of this year's Spring Break Camp will be ‘Pirates Take Over’, in which the students will participate in fun and educational treasure hunts, learn about pirate related myths, feed and interact with marine animals, and get soaked at Salty’s Pirate Playground. There are additional options to add in lunch and early or late care for the camp as well, but we will take care of that for your group if needed!
Note that there are also Day Camps, which are action packed days with various themes from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, as well as a month-long Summer camp and week long winter camp.
So what is your eager student group waiting for? Let’s head to Miami and get wild, marine wild!
