Great FallsOcean City Eco Tour

Maryland’s coast offers white sand, rivers, wildlife, miles of oceanfront (and a charming boardwalk). This area and the island of Assateague nearby create the perfect destination for low-impact tours. Here are some of the many activities you could include in group travel to Ocean City, Maryland, with a focus on ecotourism.

The Island of Assateague has three parts managed by various organizations: Assateague Island National Seashore, Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, and Assateague State Park. The seashore and forests are perfect for exploration. You might see all kinds of birds and other wildlife on the island, including a glimpse of Assateague’s famous wild ponies. Two herds graze the marshes and dunes of Assateague. You might spot them while combing the beach for shells where you can also see bottlenose dolphins in the surf.

The farm fields and bayside landings between Berlin, Snow Hill, and Pocomoke are the perfect area to explore on bicycle. You can watch for wild turkey and whitetail deer. The Viewtrail is a 100-mile loop through rural Worcester County. And there are hundreds of miles of cycling trails throughout the Delmarva Peninsula. It’s a beautiful way to enjoy the area.

The Delmarva Discovery Center is one of the area’s newest and most fascinating attractions. It’s a living museum located on the Pocomoke River. It focuses on river ecology and the history of the area. Its six thousand gallon fresh water aquarium tank is one of most popular exhibits. You’ll also find exhibits on Native American culture, shipbuilding, and commercial fishing. There are touch tanks and many unique collections celebrating the natural wonders of the area.
