The Globe
Take a guided tour in London, perhaps even a guided drive from the airport when you first arrive. This way you can see many of the best-known attractions right away and find them later when you explore on your own. Besides the most obvious, you’ll want to visit Shakespeare’s Globe. The Globe is where many of Shakespeare’s plays were originally performed. To really round out your tour, hopefully you can catch a Shakespeare original as it was meant to be seen.
Oxford
The Oxford colleges are interesting attractions, and literary types should find plenty to love here. Plus, in nearby Stratford-Upon-Avon, you’ll find Shakespeare’s birthplace and the childhood home of his wife Anne Hathaway.
Basingstoke
Jane Austen grew up in Steventon near Basingstoke. Her father preached at the St. Nicholas Church that still stands in the area.
Bath
This historic city is a nod to its days in the Roman Empire. It figures often in Jane Austen’s novels.
Chawton
Austen lived with her mother and sister in a house here that is now a museum in her honor with a book and gift shop included.
Winchester
Jane Austen’s last home and final resting place are in Winchester. The home is subtly marked with a plaque. You’ll find her grave in Winchester Cathedral.
Haworth
This is the place to visit to discover more about Charlotte, Anne, and Emily Brönte. The Brönte Parsonage Museum is where they lived with their father who was an English clergyman. Jane Eyre, Agnes Grey, and Wuthering Heights were all written in the dining room, which you’ll see on your tour.
