Western Reserve Society
The Western Reserve Society is the family-friendly museum located along East Boulevard that showcases various exhibits on regional history. This is the oldest existing cultural institution in the nation, first founded in 1867. This massive historical experience moved to its current location in 1938, in the old Hay-McKinney building. Inside your group can explore industrial, social, and sports history, as well as various other onsite specialties such as aviation, auto-aviation, costume fashion, and pioneer history. The Western Reserve Society is the perfect way to immerse your students in Ohio culture, history, and beyond!
Be sure to save plenty of time for this stop so you can see it all, the campus owning the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum, Chisholm Halle Costume Wing, and 90-acre Hale Farm and Village, the living history museum that focuses on 19th-century life. Here you can learn about agriculture and trades from the time and also participate in period-appropriate crafts and demonstrations, such as glass blowing, pottery, spinning, and weaving. Back inside you can also choose to spend extra time visiting such dedicated exhibits regarding important subjects like the American Civil War, Decorative Arts, Genealogy, and regional cultural history. The later subject delves deeper into such communities as the Jewish, Italian, Irish, African American, and LGBT communities.
