Also known as "City Beneath the Streets," Underground Atlanta remains and reigns as one of the most diverse, eclectic, and exciting entertainment, shopping, dining, and historical centers in Atlanta. Begun in the early 1920s as a series of viaducts built beneath the city, Underground Atlanta sat undisturbed until 1968 when restoration practices were put into place and the district is how you find it today: a riotous and unique venue to spend your time in Atlanta.
Guided walking tours of the Underground lead you through the history of Atlanta, the cultural and commercial importance of Alabama and Peachtree Streets, and the architectural significance of the Underground. Self-guided walking tours are also welcome and History Tour Brochures are available at the Information Booth.
If you choose to forego a tour you can always spend time shopping, dining, and being entertained. Check out the new Pac-Man Play Arcade, grab some new sneakers at Foot Locker, celebrate the many scheduled events on the track or satisfy your sweet tooth at the Southern Candy Co. The options are endless and you'll be endlessly amazed by the unique opportunities you'll find at Underground Atlanta!
