What’s New at Disney 2020

Every year brings something new and exciting to Disney parks worldwide, and 2020 is no exception.

While most of 2020 is dedicated to preparations for Disney's 50th anniversary in 2021, there are still some thrilling new additions to discuss.

At this year's D23 Expo several new attractions, experiences, and eateries were talked about, from new digital planning tools for guests to a brand new immersive Micky and Minnie-themed ride.

If you didn't already know, Disney's D23 Expo is a yearly 3-day event in which fans can get several 'inside the magic' experiences from the top dogs of Disney. This is considered to be the 'ultimate Disney fan event', filled with sneak peeks, celebrity appearances, presentations, and looks at what's coming in the future!

So let's dive right in!


Orlando

  • Disney Springs - Cirque Du Soleil - The new highly anticipated Cirque Du Soleil show at Disney Springs is called Destiny and will open in March of 2020. This show celebrates the art of Disney in a signature Cirque du Soleil way, featuring dazzling acrobatic sequences, choreography, musical numbers, and characters.
  • Hollywood Studios - Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - This new interactive ride is set to be the first Micky themed attraction at Walt Disney World. It will be set inside the Chinese Theater at Hollywood Studios and will immerse guests into a vivid cartoon world experience.
  • Magic Kingdom - Tron Lightcycle Coaster - While this is actually set to open in 2021, you will see several changes to the face of Magic Kingdom this year in regards to Tron.
  • Epcot - Harmonious Nightime Show -HarmonioUS - These are the new Forever Nightime Shows featuring music from around the globe and stupendous light displays.
  • Epcot - Interactive Play Pavilion - this attraction is going to take over the Wonders of Life Building in Future World and will allow guests access to 'the most Disney characters you will see in one place'. This arrival is set for late 2020.
  • Epcot - Remy's Ratatouille Adventure and French Creperie - At Epcot's France Pavilion you will see the addition of Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, a new dark ride that allows you to explore the large kitchen from the film. This is set to open on May 2020, and then a new french Crepeire restaurant will follow, headed by Chef Jerome Bocuse.
  • Epcot - Mary Poppins at UK Pavillion -  A new section is to be added to the UK Pavilion, called Cherry Tree Lane. It will have recreations of Admiral Boom’s house as well as Number 17, which is the iconic home of the Banks family.
  • Hollywood Studios - Rise of Resistance - This Star Wars Galaxy's Edge attraction is actually set to open late 2019. It will be 'a massive, multi-platform, new attraction that is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced at Walt Disney World'!
  • Hollywood Studios - Roundup Rodeo BBQ Restaurant - Toy Story Land - Andy's Backyard has a new table-service eatery that the whole family will love, set to open mid-2020.

Anaheim

  • Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway - Toon Town - Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway trackless dark ride will debut in 2022 in the Mickey’s Toontown section of the Anaheim theme park, though construction will be highly noticeable in 2020.
  • Disney's California Adventure - Marvel Land - A new Avengers Campus is going to be opening in the Spring of 2020 and will feature a Disney first: a Spiderman attraction. Aptly named WEB, this interactive spidey ride will delight all superhero fans!
  • Disneyland - Magic Happens - This is a new parade at Mainstreet Disneyland coming in Spring 2020. This new parade embraces the old and the new at Disney, featuring characters such as Moana alongside characters such as Sleeping Beauty.

Disney In General

  • Disney Genie - This new digital planning tool will allow guests to easily plan their Disney adventure with completely customizable itineraries put together specifically for you! This tool is set to come out late 2020.
  • runDisney - Various marathons in parks throughout the year.
  • Lighthouse Point Bahamas - This is a new destination added to Disney cruises in 2020
  • Disney Wish - New cruise liner addition to the already impressively magical ship line up.
  • Epcot Festival of Arts 2020 January 17 to February 24 - China 360, Canada 360, and new Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along added (all new films).
  • Galactic Cruiser Star Wars Adventure at Walt Disney World Resort - 2-night interactive adventure for the whole family UNDERWAY. Finish date unknown.
