Devil’s Hole State Park

Devil's Hole State Park

Take in the incredible views of Class V whitewater rapids at Devil's Hole State Park, the 42-acre park located in Niagara County, just north of Niagara Falls. This park overlooks the lower Niagara River Gorge and is named for the rapids it overlooks.

During your visit to the park your group can hike, picnic, fish, or simply stroll around and enjoy the views. Start your visit by walking down the 300-foot stone staircase that leads to the base of the gorge and starts the looping Devil's Hole Trail. The trail will offer spectacular views of the rapids and surrounding gorge rock layers. The trail is adjoining with the adjacent Whirpool State Park as well, offering access to even more stunning trails and vantage points.

During a hike, you will see various locally common mosses, ferns, gulls, and other waterfowl, plus, of course, the infamous Class V rapids. Porous limestone rock layers will surround you and you will be able to see and visit such spots as Gorge Rim and the Cave of Evil Spirits. The trails are well established but not the easiest to traverse, so be aware before you begin your hike of the conditions of the trail in question. If you are visiting the park during the fall or winter months you will have excellent fishing opportunities here, this area considered to be one of the premier freshwater fishing locations in the country.
