Drive-In Theater Destinations

Being a millenial, I sometimes find it hard to feel the same nostalgia as my parents and grandparents for "the way things used to be." I love my iPhone, my laptop is always fully charged, and I've come out of the closet as a Netflix addict.

But every once in a while, I see a glimpse of how movie-watching was achieved before my time, before Netflix, before internet pirating and before megaplex cinemas.

Grease was one of my favorite films growing up, and the scene at the drive-in movie theater was classic. I couldn't wrap my head around such a communal way of watching films. Going to the drive-in was a social event for large groups of friends, as everyone could sit on their hood with the radio blasting the film's dialouge, and the cars were spaced just far enough apart that you could quietly make jokes or discuss a scene without disturbing your neighbor.

Being a film-enthusiast, I feel a sense of nostalgia for that experience I've never had -- I am tired of watching Netflix home alone, or having first dates at the movie theater because it allows for two hours of silence to save awkward conversation -- I am ready to go to the drive-in.

Here is a list of all the remaining drive-in theaters across America, by state, put together by drive-ins.com. Find one near you, grab some friends, don a poodle skirt and take a trip back in time to when movies weren't as accessible as a click of a mouse.
