Groups of Atlanta visitors on an educational excursion will not want to miss a stop at this brilliant assemblage of modern displays located on the ground floor of the 1315 Peachtree Building. The Museum of Design Atlanta’s galleries comprises some 5,000 plus square feet of engaging special presentations showcasing the impact of design on everyday life. Formerly known as the Atlanta International Museum of Art & Design, MODA’s mission is to advance the understanding and appreciation of design as the convergence of creativity and functionality through exhibitions, education, and programming for visitors of all ages!

MODA is unique in that it does not host a permanent collection, nor does it host more than one collection at a time! Various traveling exhibits may include topics like “The Genius of Everyday Things” highlighting the history behind the design and the creation of 36 of the most ordinary objects that have revolutionized the way we live- such as pencils, paper clips, and bubble wrap!

Organized by The Vitra Museum in Germany, this mobile exhibition illuminates four key aspects of each item’s design: innovation, production, evolution, and inspiration. The museum’s “Design Conversation” program welcomes a new guest speaker every month and lets visitors in on design professionals’ and practitioners’ tricks of the trade, while MODA’s Young Explorers class lets students, ages 6-15 work in Minecraft to custom-design a 3D object and print it on a MakerBot Replicator 2, desktop 3D printer.
