American Diving was founded by Captain Tim O'Leary, who made the switch from commercial diving into sport diving in the 80s'. His company 'introduces divers of all levels to the beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of South Padre Island'. The company's focus is on safety and friendliness, and of course, providing guests with memories they won't soon forget.
The main boat the company uses is The Diver 1, built to comfortably take divers to the wrecks off the coast of South Padre Island. It is 60 feet long with an air-conditioned cabin and convenient dive platform, and it is USCG certified. Please note that in order to take a dive trip groups must be certified first!! Our groups most commonly go for the Snorkel Trip or Dolphin Watch Tour.
The Snorkel Trip with American Diving is professionally guided and takes you to the Laguna Madre Marine Estuary. The water is about 3-6 feet deep, ideal for all ages and abilities. All gear is provided and snorkel vests are also available for those who feel they may need extra help. The tour lasts 3 hours, with 1 full hour in the water.
The Dolphin Watch is also highly popular with groups, this tour taking place on The Double Sunshine, the USCG inspected double-decker boat that allows year-round sightings of bottle-nose and spinner dolphins within the 'unspoiled waters of the Texas Riviera'. This is the territory of the Spanish Galleons and home to the pirates of Devil's Elbow, adding local marine history in with the eco-education you will get during the tour.
