The capital city of Maryland, Annapolis, is one of our favorite additional itinerary suggestions for groups traveling to Washington D.C or Baltimore, due to both its close proximity to both cities and its unbeatable historical and educational assets.

Perhaps the most major historic influence on the city is the US Naval Academy, giving the city its military and collegiate background that so strongly runs through it today. The academy is a world-class academic institution and has been here since 1845.

Another big city draw is its sailing scene, some considering this to be the Sailing Capital of America, the rivers, creeks, and inland bays providing access to the Chesapeake! Not only does this mean really fun rec options, but it adds the cultural, economic, and historic education element to your trip as well.

Downtown you will find historic inns and businesses, scenic streets, and fine shopping, dining, and entertainment experiences. Head to Eastport and you will find art galleries, coffee shops, and spas!

Here are a few of the major sites you will see while in Annapolis:

  • Maryland State House
  • Maryland Maritime Museum
  • Arts District
  • Eastport
  • City Dock
  • The Yard
  • Banneker Museum
  • Historic District
  • United States Naval Academy
