Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary

Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary

Connecting people and nature one butterfly at a time.

Your group is going to love the Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary, the perfect rainy day destination in the Pocono Mountain region.

Located in Carbon County, Pennslyvania, at the Jim Thorpe education center, you will find this unique hands-on education center featuring live butterflies and exotic frogs. The main draw to the sanctuary is the indoor 'flutterarium', the live butterfly flight room. Groups visiting the sanctuary will be able to learn about butterflies through observation, hand-feedings, live releases, educational videos, and various fun educational programs. Spend time exploring the Native Caterpillar Exhibit or Monarch Watch Way Station, or discovering the exotic frogs onsite such as the dart frog or oriental fire belly toad.

Students will appreciate the group programs available onsite each May through early September, including programs such as Butterfly School 101 and Butterfly Scout Program. If you're lucky you will also get to meet Mari Gruber while you are here, the resident Butterfly Lady!
