Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Welcome to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, America’s only mountain zoo! That's right, this zoo is the only one in the U.S actually situated on a mountainside!
Located just southwest of downtown Colorado Springs, this animal haven was opened in 1926 after a local man wanted a place to house his growing collection of exotic animals. Over 90 years later the collection and passion have grown exponentially, with over 750 animals that represent 150 species today!
Sitting 6,800 feet above sea level, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will give your group the most breathtaking surrounding city and mountain views. The zoo will immerse your group in exotic cultures and habitats while inspiring a new respect for wildlife preservation.
While here, your group can choose from several different zoo exploration tours based on popular topics that allow you to get up close and hands-on, such as Animal Adaptations, Habitats, Veterinary Science, African Animals, and Zoo History.
The unique design of the Zoo’s animal exhibits gets guests closer than ever before. Hand-feed one of the largest reticulated giraffe herds in the world, watch grizzlies swim with trout, hop next to red-necked wallabies and get hands on with some of the Zoo’s smaller residents in The Loft. - Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
