Cripple Creek Heritage Center

Cripple Creek Heritage Center

After a ride on the cog train head over to the Cripple Creek Heritage Center, the travel and information resource center with a gorgeous bird’s eye view of Cripple Creek. This 11,600 square foot heritage center enlightens guests on the time of ‘the country’s last great gold rush’ with several exhibits depicting the life of fortune seekers in the area in the 1800s. You will learn all about the World’s Greatest Gold Camp through several different hands-on exhibits with tactile, audio, and video techniques. You will also learn about local flora and fauna, geology, and even regional recreation options while here. While the style of the building may be reminiscent of the past, the technology of exhibits inside certainly isn’t.

Some of the most popular exhibits here include Early Explorers, First Residents, Faces from the Past, American Indians, Railroad, Business of Mining, Colorado Wildlife, and Colorado Gems and Minerals. You will see photos of dinosaur discoveries in the area and evidence of gold mining in artifact form, all really excellent educational points for your students while in the area.
