Guthrie Theater

The Guthrie creates transformative theater experiences that ignite the imagination, stir the heart, open the mind and build community through the illumination of our common humanity. - Guthrie Theater

Welcome to the Guthrie Theater, the Minneapolis landmark performing arts venue that specializes in theater performance, production, education, and professional training.

The Guthrie Theater was founded in 1963 by Sir Tyrone Guthrie and was dedicated to the production of great works of dramatic literature. This theater puts on wide-ranging plays across its 3 stages and also offers full-service dining and onsite bars. The Guthrie is considered to be a leading 21st-century arts organization and features state of the art backstage areas and a full-time production staff onsite.

Take a tour of the theater with your group to get special behind the scenes looks of the world-renowned theater, with options including the 45-minute Backstage Tour, in which you will see the thrust and proscenium stages, scene shop, costume shop, and more, the 75-minute Architecture Tour, discussing the details of Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, and the Costume Rentals Tour, which takes you through over 50,000 pieces at the off-site warehouse.

The shows your group will see here range from contemporary to classic. Examples of this scope in the Guthrie’s 19–20 Season are A Christmas Carol, Steel Magnolias, Fast Company, Twelfth Night, and Emma. One of our favorite things about the Guthrie is that they are highly committed to having 'access for all' with a high commitment to accessibility (watch the video below).
