Holden Arboretum
Near Cleveland, in Kirtland, Ohio, you can see the Holden Arboretum. Considered to be the largest arboreta in the United States, guests can hike and enjoy the beautiful plants in various gardens while here. Bird watching is also an enjoyable part of the Holden Arboretum experience. In the course of the visit, you can take a tour of the seasonal gardens. One of the tours is known as the Holden Highlights Walking Tour where, during the program, guests will have the opportunity to walk through the Holden gardens and see special collections. You will also learn about Holden’s unique history with a special emphasis on seasonal highlights. Another presentation is known as the Butterfly Garden Tour. A 40-minute program taking place during the months of June through September, you will have the opportunity to take a stroll through the garden and observe pollinators in action. Guests will also learn about the importance of the butterflies and how easy it is to attract them.
The Holden Arboretum also offers fun-filled educational programs. One of the presentations is known as Interdependence Links Between Plants and Animals, targeted for students in the second and third grade. The kids will collect data on forest inhabitants and make first-hand observations of the ways the plants and animals are interdependent. Guests will also learn about the cool ways that the plants defend themselves. Another program for students in fourth grade is known as Life Cycles of Plants Growing Through Changes. In the course of the experience, children will play a game of Life Cycle Bingo. They will also have the opportunity to observe the diversity of the life stages.
