Hunter Museum of American Art

See art with new eyes as a way to better understand American history and to learn more about what makes us Americans today.

Welcome to the Hunter Museum of American Art, Chattanooga's premier art museum displaying some of the most amazing architecture, American based art collections, and always-exciting temporary exhibits.

The first thing you are going to notice is the stunning architecture of the museum, which sits on an 80 foot bluff of the Tennessee River. The building is an early 20th-century structure, displaying an excellent mix of colonial revival architecture and contemporary steel and glass designs.

Inside the Hunter, your group will find American art from the colonial period to today featuring popular works of 19th-century genres, American Impressionism, Early Modernism, and Post WWII contemporary art. Within the permanent collections, you will find over 5,000 works of art from such well-known artists as Thomas Cole, Winslow Homer, Duane Hanson, and Andy Warhol. The collections are broken down by categories such as Paintings, Sculpture, Mixed Media, Photography, Furniture, Glass, and the like.

Consider booking a tour during your visit, with various options for Adults, K-12 and Homeschool, and College groups. Be sure to save plenty of time to explore the outdoor sculpture garden and onsite museum store before you go!
