The Jellyfish Museum in Pompano Beach is the first museum in the United States dedicated entirely to jellyfish, home to up to 25 species collected from oceans around the world. Housed in a nearly 10,000-square-foot space with 21 specially designed tanks, the museum lets visitors get close to creatures that have existed for more than 500 million years.
Inside, glowing saltwater tanks and 3D wall projections create an immersive, underwater atmosphere as jellyfish drift and pulse through the dark exhibit space. Guests can view both cold-water and warm-water species in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and colors, with rotating exhibits ensuring the collection changes over time. Educational displays throughout the museum explain how jellyfish survive without a brain, relying on a simple nerve net to sense and respond to their environment, and highlight their role in ocean ecosystems.
The museum was founded by Alex and Yana Yanovsky, who previously built successful jellyfish aquariums in Kyiv, Ukraine, before relocating to the U.S. following the 2022 Russian invasion. Their experience shows in the museum’s design, which blends science, art, and relaxation into a single visitor experience.
Located at 199 N Ocean Blvd in Pompano Beach, about 40 minutes north of Miami, the Jellyfish Museum makes an easy addition to a South Florida itinerary for families, school groups, or travelers looking for a quieter, more unique stop between beach days.
