Arguably the most famous religious attraction in the United States, the Salt Lake City Temple Square, featuring the majestic white granite Temple itself, is the home church and centerpiece of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints. View the grand structure from near and afar, built in dedication to God’s eternal glory, and marvel at its strength of size.
This LDS architectural masterpiece sits on the massive 10-acre complex that includes the Tabernacle, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, Humanitarian Center, Historic Lion House, and more. The Temple itself hosts weekly worship services but is only open to those of the Mormon faith. Tours of the Temple Square and exhibits are open daily from 9 am-9 pm.
Whether you have a free hour or a whole afternoon, a visit to Temple Square is recommended. Start your tour at the South Visitors Center and view the exhibits on the construction of the church, the principles of the LDS faith, and the history of Joseph Smith. The establishment of Utah and of Salt Lake City relied heavily on the Mormon Church. See where it all began at historic homes such as the Beehive House, the home of Brigham Young when he stood as President to the Church and governor of Utah in the mid-1800s.
