Scottsdale’s Museum of the West

At Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West (SMoW), we bring authentic stories to life through Western and Native American art, artifacts and living cultures.

Welcome to Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West, or SMoW for short! This 2-story, 43,000 square foot museum features the art, culture, and history of 19 states in the American West, including Arizona.

This Scottsdale city-owned museum celebrates the American West with various paintings, crafts, artifacts, and theater events onsite regularly. The museum is a Smithsonian affiliate and is located within the former site of the Loloma Transit Station, in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale.

Within the museum your group will be able to explore various permanent and rotating exhibits, each display exploring the iconic world of Western art and culture. See things such as pristine Navajo Chiefs blankets, over 1400 examples of Old West cowboy gear, a tribute to the Hopi People, various examples of ancient pottery, and countless fun social media-worthy photo opportunities throughout. Be sure to save time to see the Western Spirit Trail 3D Mural, take a gallery tour, or participate in any educational activities that may be happening during your visit.
