The Capital Wheel

The Capital Wheel

Open 365 days a year, The Capital Wheel at the National Harbor is one of the coolest things your group can do during your DC area visit. Though technically located across the harbor in the state of Maryland, this spot is just 15 minutes south of the greater Washington D.C area, a close trip from the also highly recommended Southwest Waterfront.

The Capital Wheel was established here in 2014, a 180 foot, 42-gondola-carrying behemoth of an attraction providing 'incomparable views' of the DC and harbor area. Here are a few of the main attractions you can see from the top of Captain Wheel.

  • City of Alexandria
  • Prince George County
  • Washington Monument
  • Masonic Temple
  • National Cathedral

Right around The Capital Wheel, you will find The Carousel at National Harbor, as well as the Flight Deck Lounge, which is a great spot to sit and enjoy the sunset.

Within the National Harbor, you can do several different things, such as ride The Carousel, enjoy the Waterfront entertainment and regular special events, watch a movie on the Potomac River, try some of the freshest new dining options around, or even spend the evening shopping. The 'sights, scents, and sounds of this unique waterfront wonderland' will entice every member of your group, no matter what their interest is!

To go shopping, jump on the National Harbor Circulator ($5 for an all-day pass) up to Tanger Outlets and MGM National Harbor. Additionally, be sure to check the National Harbor’s event calendar for their listing of free movies and events!
