Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art

Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art

One of the most popular and highly visited contemporary art museums in the United States is located in Virginia Beach and offers their over 150,000 visitors per year an educational opportunity unique to today’s art and critical thinking style. Oftentimes referred to as the Virginia MOCA, this establishment features internationally renowned artists as well as nationally and regionally known artists. MOCA is a highly successful non-profit museum that features diverse exhibitions and stimulates critical thinking through the many educational facets offered.

Though the exhibits are constantly changing, one can always find an enlightening mix of paintings, sculptures, photography, glass constructions, video, and visual media art. The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art keeps guests well entertained with its four main activities: gallery exhibitions, studio art classes, educational outreach, and outdoor art shows. MOCA’s main goal is to continually teach about international contemporary art and inspire local artists, each of which reflects the culture around it. With this goal in mind, the museum has successfully maintained an educational outreach to over 30,000 children per year.

It would be easy to lose track of time in this 38,500 square foot complex, with over 6,300 square feet of gallery and plenty of garden and artwork outdoors. Guests are encouraged to interact with museum tour guides and ask plenty of questions as they embark on an educational and entertaining journey through contemporary art and local radical history at Virginia's own Museum of Contemporary Art.
