Weeki Wachee Springs

Weeki Wachee Springs

Melding naturalist ecotourism with traditional tourist landmarks, Weeki Wachee Springs is a unique combination of kitsch and glam, of nature and the performing arts. No matter what you describe it as it's fun. Home of the Weeki Wachee mermaids, this park is like no other with live performances, a waterpark set in natural surroundings, and nature tours among other attractions.

Utilizing the natural beauty of Tampa's landscape, the original tourist attraction was established by stunt swimmer and attraction promoter Newt Perry in 1947. Mr. Perry brought in "mermaids" to perform underwater and above with stylistic swimming routines in the natural spring. A famous guest has included Elvis Presley, Don Knotts, and others while Hollywood has used the location in filming a number of movies such as Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid in 1948.

Today, the mermaids are still performing with updated routines and costumes, storylines and newer underwater viewing areas. See the mermaids perform favorites like The Little Mermaid and other park originals or take a behind the scenes tour and perhaps meet a cast member. The park is also home to a fabulous River Boat Cruise piloted by an informative narrator leading you through the native flora and fauna of Florida that you may see. Also be sure to stop by and see the animal shows as you find keepers educating the public on snakes, alligators, and other native Florida species. Before you leave, you don't want to miss out on Buccaneer Bay, Weeki Wachee's own waterpark set directly in the natural spring. Take a dive off the thrilling log flumes, canoe or kayak in the water, camp in the on-site campground, and - if you have little kids - visit Lil' Mates Caribbean Cove. This is a one-stop wondrous entertainment venue with something for everyone!
