Day 2 You'll See:
This 2-day Omaha Educational Tour will show your group fine art, architecture, and outdoor beauty!
During your visit, your group will take a tour of the interior of the home, which features 36 rooms amongst 4 stories. See the reception hall, ballroom, music room, library, and gold drawing-room, as well as many, many more. The home serves as a physical reminder of the immense philanthropic legacies of the original residents, the Joslyn's, who once said 'the possession of great wealth is a great trust and obligation'. By exploring their home you will be able to learn bits and pieces about the family, local history, culture, art, nature, architecture, and more.
Joslyn Art Museum
The museum houses works of art that focus on 19th and 20th century American and European art as well as well-known works by Karl Bodmer. Educational travelers will appreciate the guided tours offered by the museum. The tours will be held in the permanent collection and special exhibitions. Several options are available based on the grade level of the students. For example student travelers in the Middle and High School can take part in Leadership: Making a Difference.
The Durham Museum
Welcome to The Durham Museum, the art deco train station turned museum that holds various displays on Omaha history as well as different traveling exhibits. This train station dates back to 1931 and features 'beautiful architecture that blends with memories of a time gone by', the perfect place to enlighten your group on some important local history and culture! The museum is considered to be one of Omaha's most unique treasures and offers a broad range of traveling exhibits covering history, culture, science, and industry.
At Lauritzen Gardens your group has several different options for exploration. You can take a group tour such as the Discovery Tour, Conservatory Tour, Green Studies Tour, or Garden Tour, or explore the area on your own. There is an onsite Visitor and Education Center you definitely need to visit, holding horticultural libraries, and education wing, classrooms, seasonal displays, and a cafe and gift shop. This living horticultural learning center holds exhibits that change with the seasons, highlighting seasonal splendors like Fall Chrysanthemums, Christmas Poinsettas, and Spring Tulips!
